Two Weeks

1 Jul

This time in two weeks it will be the eve of our NZ English immersion adventure slash who ate all the kebabs trip.

Today the school all three kids are going to emailed me to tell me the names of their teachers, making it so much more real. Gaaaaah, two fuckin weeks!!

  • passports X 7 – check
  • plane tickets – of course
  • seat selection for plane tickets – check on 3 of the 4 legs of the journey there and back. For some reason I can’t select for the Seoul to Auckland leg so am kinda hoping a accidentally get put in business while the 3 kids are back in economy.
  • school enrollment forms – check for the kids and check for the JHS girl coming for two weeks.
  • accommodation – check.
  • car – check – although brother in law is going to get the shocks changed cause they can like effect the brakes and like not being able to brake with three small people in the car is kinda a big deal.
  • stuff for NZ school – not yet but sister suggested I write list for nieces to sort out, instead of me scrolling for hours online. Good plan. Will get onto that.
  • stuff for Japan school – seven hundred and ninety seven times more of a pain in the ass than sorting stuff for NZ school. Have meeting with teachers next week to get textbooks, print outs and instructions, no doubt pages and pages of bloody instructions. Not to mention their summer homework..
  • packing – haven’t even started. Must get onto that.
  • international drivers license as NZ license expired and need to drive day I arrive – center is 2 hours away. Must do next week.
  • get new gaijin card – ditto, although not necessity as not about to expire.
  • sort out everything here – not yet but basically just means ensuring have enough money in my account for the stuff that comes out of it every month like kids health insurance, water tank loan, visa, my cell yaddah yaddah.

Bloody hell. Trying not to think about it until after tomorrow and NZ speech out of way. At least all the critical stuff is done and anything else, should it get forgotten, isn’t a huge thing to fix. Fuck, but do need to get license. Kids also have dentist appointments lined up, whole day of PTA this Friday, followed by PTA BBQ and a weekend of soccer…

Sorry, life quite boring due to no alcohol, resulting in fewer arguments with hub, fewer random online purchases or pledges to save the red assed baboon – although I did soberly donate some money to a Japanese man saving his dolphin watching boat. He is a save the dolphins advocate in a town that up until his efforts was a dolphin hunters paradise. Do love dolphins.

And now I need to finish this bloody speech. I hate it when I get asked to talk about Japan from a foreigners perspective. I’ve lived here so bloody long that half the shit that used to surprise me I have forgotten and/or grown to realize is good thing. Perhaps I’ll just spend an hour talking about gender equality Β and politicians who harass women in the diet by shouting out things like ‘hurry up and get married’ and ‘can’t you have any babies’.

Do hope you will continue to blog from NZ! Too many blogs I have been following have either simply disappeared or are not posting very often (any idea how Gina Chrysamthemummum is?) Have a safe trip and enjoy your time there. xx

Hi Grace, I’m here but not blogging or reading many blogs at the moment. Great to be back, but still lots to do repatriation-wise so rather hectic most days. Will start a new blog soon hopefully. Watch this space lol!

Yay, good to hear from you! Look forward to reading all about the repatriation etc when you feel ready to tell us. Was just concerned as you had disappeared off the face the earth!

Apart from all shit you have to organize I’m so envious of you being able to skip the looming summer and go back home. Mmm, kebabs, flat whites, cheesy things, sausage rolls and gourmet meat pies, and just chilling.

Please keep blogging from NZ, would love to hear about NZ schools compared to japan ones.

GW, good luck getting everything done in time! But then, you are pretty much a super mum by now what with all the stuff you deal with on a day to day basis..! Lol. I’m sure it will all be fine. Kinda funny that you’re taking a JHS girl with you, but I guess she can help you with the kids, hehe. Also, another +1 for blogging in NZ! Love killing time at work catching up on the latest goings on in your inaka… πŸ™‚

Bloody hell woman, I’m worn out just reading that lot!! Just planning for a month’s trip is a nightmare with three kids, let alone sorting out stuff for school on both sides too. I hope you have a lot of good strong COFFEE to get you through it x
